Building Power through Community Organising

On this one-day course you will explore and develop your understanding of power, which is what drives community organising: what power means and how power can be built in community to overcome social injustice and create change.

Using fun and thought-provoking activities, and thinking about our own lives, we will think about the different types and effects of power and look at the ways that people can build power together through community organising.

During this course you will explore:

  • your personal power and ability to act
  • how power is exercised in society
  • what it means to organise for change
  • how to begin to pinpoint the causes of social injustice
  • how to build power with others through community organising

The course also provides a reminder of the basics of community organising which are covered in our Introduction to Community Organising course. If you haven’t been on our Introduction course, ideally we would encourage you to do this before signing up to our Power course.

Like all of our training, it is both challenging and enjoyable. It is designed so that everybody can take part and share their ideas and experiences and learn some practical tools and skills.

Providing high quality and enjoyable learning experiences is very important to us. Our trainers are quality assured and experienced in community organising, and our courses are approved as quality training by the Skills and Education Group.

The main message that stood out for me was of community organisers gaining collective power of people.

Refreshments will be served during this workshop but please arrive for 8.45 am for refreshments so that we can make a prompt start. Please bring your own Lunch or money to buy your own lunch.
