On this course, you will gain an understanding of why listening is important in community organising. You will develop practical listening skills and tactics, and you will plan a listening campaign.
You will learn about:
- ‘relational’ listening and its importance in community organising
- how to plan a listening campaign to kick-start your organising work
- practical listening tools you can use to engage people, build relationships and find leaders
- how asking powerful questions helps people to tell their stories
- how community organisers reflect to improve their work
We believe that Community Organising has the potential to significantly enhance and strengthen the relationship between individuals, communities and the institutions and organisations that serve them.
This training, although open to all, follows on from the Introduction to Community Organising course that we have delivered in the past and most recently in January 2019. The training is ideal if you’re new to the community organising approach, or if you just want a refresher on Listening Skills as a whole.
This fun one-day course, like all of our training, it is inspiring and interactive. It is designed so that everybody can take part and share their ideas and experiences and practice their skills.
Providing high quality and enjoyable learning experiences is very important to us. Our trainers are quality assured and experienced in community organising, and our courses are endorsed as quality training by Certa/ABC Awards and Continuing Professional Development.
The listening exercise made me reflect on how I have been listening to others and sometimes not hearing them.
Refreshments will be served during this workshop but please arrive for 8:45 am for refreshments so that we can make a prompt start. Lunch is not provided so please bring a packed luch with you.
There is no fee for attending this training however, there is a considerable cost involved in delivering it so please ensure you let the organisers know if you can no longer attend.
The training is delivered by Sneinton Alchemy Social Action Hub.
