CO CLASS is a support service based at the Salisbury Medical Practice who meet once a week on Wednesdays from 9am-1pm. They offer support for those affected by cancer in and around the Salisbury area.
In addition to their volunteered support time, they have negotiated a new room that is bigger and better for supporting people’s needs. Not only that but they have sought funding for a complementary therapist. They have also supported a listening event with Salisbury Hospital, asking people what kind of support would suit them best in the future.
Our passion, closeness and determination as a team inspired us to forge forward and recreate another service within our community.
The Community Organising funding has supported this group massively, to not only listen and support people but to strengthen a power base that could potentially influence life-changing decisions.
They were already listening to people but I am not sure they realised how much power they had. Working with these incredible people has inspired me and continues to teach me about community organising. They are a great example of people that want to embrace listening skills and bring people’s voices to the table of the decision-makers, to ensure that the cancer strategy is fit for purpose.
