Community Organisers Parks Swindon

Local Organising Group

We are a group of local people who care passionately about our community and want to make it better. We want to get the rest of the community involved in making it better with us and we want as much input as possible. We have been working through PIPs and inspired by the community in Penhill and want to bring people together for change.

We want to listen to the community to find out what they want and then work together with them to make it happen. Our aim is to be a community that we are proud of. We are trying to bring everyone together to support each other. Going out to listening using a community organising approach is needed because people don’t come in very easily. We will be knocking on doors and going to Cavendish Square. We want to reach all ages and people from all walks of life.

The older generation remembers the community spirit that used to exist ‘in the old days’ and that this has been lost. We think that community organising will help us to bring this feeling back.

Community organising may help us to reach those young people who do not feel apart of the community to feel they belong and give them something new to aim for. It will help us to engage the people who moan about things in a way that enables them to put that energy into turning things around.

Meeting Keith (Local Member Organisers) and learning about community organising has been great for us and has given us the opportunity to go on the training courses for (Introduction and Listening Skills) so far.

We believe our community has so much potential and we think community organising can help turn this potential into real skills, actions and change. We know that this will create a better community for our children. The older generation remembers the community spirit that used to exist ‘in the old days’ and that this has been lost. We think that community organising will help us to bring this feeling back.
