Assemblies are increasingly being held by organisations all over the country as a means of bringing people together to forge a collective way forward on issues that are important to them.  Assemblies are designed in such a way as to create empathy and understanding between the participants through a guided, facilitated process called Deliberation.

Facilitation can be a daunting role to undertake for the beginner, as it takes time and practice to become highly skilled in holding a group – to handle opposing or challenging opinions, all the while guiding people to learn together and to reach common goals.

OBJECTIVES

By the end of the session participants will have

  • learned the basics of assembly structure
  • experienced working with others in a Deliberation group
  • identified elements of the Deliberation Group that addresses empathy and mutual understanding
  • considered what helps to get the best out of people for mutual learning and decision making
