I was a member of the first cohort of organisers and so have been with the Programme for over two years now. My experience with organising started when I joined the Masters course in Community Organising at Queen Mary University of London in 2010. It was great to get exposure to the approach of Citizens UK and to see the extraordinary work they do with local organisations. On graduating in 2011, I joined the Locality programme of training in a team of five organers based at Cambridge House in Camberwell, SE London. We worked in several areas during the year and managed to create some great actions lead by local residents of the Aylesbury estate. I my second year I moved location but stayed working self employed on contract to Cambridge House and worked on a local small estate right by their building. During that year, I was elected to represent the cohort on the Organisers Council and helped the Council to tackle some big issues for organisers like, accreditation, lone working and response times from the Porgramme partners. I also founded the London Learning Circle for organisers in the capital of all traditions to meet and support each others work. We continue to meet monthly and learn together about a range of different issues. When my progression year was up, I moved on to work in my home area Rotherhithe as a volunteer, building a new organisation from scratch and trying to organise local debates before the next local elections in 2014  I am also volunteering at the local Citizens Advice Bureau as a Gateway Assessor and now training as an Advisor. I blog at I would love to hear from anyone with an interest in community organising or who wants to get involved in the work in Southwark.
