Community Organising and Food Banks

Community Organising and Food Banks is a new course. The main theme of this course is From Crisis Response to Community Power and is aimed at anyone who works in an organisation which focuses on food security such as a food bank or social supermarket including their staff, volunteers, trustees, and community partners.

This course is split over two sessions :

  • Wednesday 16th Sept – 9.30am to 12.15pm (part one)
  • Wednesday 23rd Sept – 9.30am to 12.15pm (part two)

Learning Outcomes

By the end of this course participants will:

  • Understand the principles of community organising.
  • Explore the relationship between charity and justice.
  • Develop practical listening skills.
  • Understand power and leadership.
  • Consider how food banks can become places of participation and action.
  • Identify first steps for their own organisation.
