We’re a network of 17 organisations across England, from wildlife trusts and development trusts to food projects, community centres and small community interest companies. What we share is a commitment to residents leading change in our neighbourhoods, not just taking part in it.
Membership starts from £50 a year, or pay what you can.
Is this for you?
You might be a good fit for the network if:
- you’re dedicated to a particular place, whether a neighbourhood, a town or a county
- you want local people to set the agenda, not just respond to yours
- you’re accountable to the community you serve
- you reinvest any surplus for social good
- you’re already listening to residents, or want to do it more deliberately
You don’t need to be a community organising organisation already. Many of our hubs started as something else: a wildlife trust wanting people to protect their local green spaces, a foodbank wanting to tackle the causes of food poverty, a football foundation wanting young people to lead. What they found in the network was a method, and peers doing the same.

What does a Social Action Hub do?
- Listen deeply to the people you work with and build relationships across your community
- Support local people to take collective action on the issues they care about
- Build long-term neighbourhood resilience and democratic power
- Share what you learn with other hubs, and learn from theirs

The concept of a Social Action Hub for us is about building power within local communities in three ways: through personal development – empowering individuals; through campaigning – working on issues; and through organising to gain recognition and become more effective at a strategic level.
