Community Organisers Salford

Local Organising Group

Originally formed as Salford Against Poverty in 2014, Our group (Involved Salford LTD) has grown from simply tackling the effects of poverty (food hunger, poor health etc) to also tackling the causes head-on via Employability building, Providing education and creating a sense of worth in those who feel worthless.

We have come so far in such a small space of time and understand that community organising played a large role in this growth. Community organising and its principles have helped create a cooperative of over 400 members, provided volunteer opportunities for over 500 people and have helped nearly 1200 local residents gain employment and/or begin further education.

Our Local Member Organiser Nick has a strong background in community engagement using community organising to help mobilise the local community into action.

As the cooperative has grown we continue to utilise community Organising methods to engage and empower our members, however, we do believe that due to the size of our organisation Community Organising can get lost in the mix as more and more procedures come into effect to help the day to day operations run smoothly and it’s with that in mind that believe that forming a community organising  groups within the organisation would be a way to ensure that not only do we continue to help tackle the issues  we originally set out to address but also keep engaged with what new issues and concerns are facing the community

Our Local Member Organiser Nick has a strong background in community engagement using community organising to help mobilise the local community into action. In his time working in the area, he has used community organising to help create a community cooperative with a current membership of over 400 local residents, businesses and community groups.

Over the past two years, Nick has guided local residents as he facilitated the community asset transfer of a disused council recreation centre to the cooperative and has helped to turn this space into a hub in the centre of the community.
