Practical Skills for Community Organisers

This course has been designed to equip new and emerging community organisers with the practical skills required for the role, whether they are working in a paid or voluntary capacity.  It will help you grow in confidence in door knocking, understand safeguarding and respond to your personal triggers, deal with difficult conversations and the conflicts you will face and maintain healthy boundaries around your time and energy.

You will learn about:

  • How to create a positive first impression
  • Beginning and sustaining the listening conversation
  • The Dos and Don’ts of door knocking
  • Safeguarding, lone working and community organising
  • Knowing your triggers and responding instead of reacting
  • Managing difficult conversations and conflicts
  • Setting and maintaining healthy boundaries

The course lasts for six hours and usually runs in one day, but can be split across two days or sessions. Like all of our training, it is both active and thought-provoking. It is designed so that everybody can take part and share their ideas and experiences.
